Dear children,
Last Friday, we gave out prizes to the
Group of September --
Winners!
Richelle,
Sarah,
Shaan and
Theophilus have worked
very hard in their studies and their behaviour in the past few weeks and truly deserve to win the award. Well done,
Winners! :)
Sarah and Theophilus have joined the ranks to become new Level 1 winners, each earning 5 pieces of stationery as their prizes. Richelle, now a Level 2 winner, earned her coloured pens, wax crayons and scissors. Shaan, still leading in the race, moved up to win his Level 5 prize -- a 100-piece Jellybeans Impossipuzzle that will help him continue sharpening his mind and building his perseverance.
These are the 20 Super Spellers who earned 2 ice-cream sticks each for their groups for last Friday's spelling test:
Chufang from Eagle
Yu Zhi from Crystal
Christian, Ethan, Ranjiv and Sujith from Bugatti
Chloe Chiang from Friendship
Avery, Marc and Keagan from Pros
Genevieve, Matthew and Samir from Masterchef
Jia Ning and Shineta from Cotton
Richelle, Sarah and Shaan from Winners
Lai Ye and Rowena from Interact
Notice that all 4 Bugatti members are Super Spellers this time round! For their combined excellence, Bugatti earned 3 bonus ice-cream sticks. Awesome work, Bugatti! :)
As a class, we did far better this time round as compared to the previous spelling test. Have a look at this chart:

You spent this morning working on your composition corrections before we got started on our final English unit -- "Houses In Singapore". Through watching a short video clip about Chinatown in the 1960s and reading an information text, you learnt about the different kinds of houses in past and present Singapore. You picked up vocabulary such as "shophouses", "government", "victims", "standpipe", "kampong" and "attap leaves". For many of you, your favourite picture was that of the standpipe in the information text. Share with your parents why. :)
Later on in the day, you heard from me the requirements of the Science Practical Test which will be conducted next Friday (16 October). You can prepare yourself by going through all the Science Activity Books as well as the Science experiment worksheets we completed throughout this year.
Thereafter, we continued with:
1) a vocabulary exercise about Changi ferry area and Pulau Ubin,
2) a sentence rewriting exercise which required you to use adjectives to describe nouns
3) an exercise requiring you to edit verb tenses (from past to present or vice versa) in a passage
4) a Whole Text Study practice that helped you to differentiate main ideas from details in a passage
Over the next three days, I will spend my remaining time with you completing the syllabus before moving on to do as much revision as we can before I leave. I want to do as much as I can with you to prepare you for your upcoming examination papers in Week 7. Next week, I will hand you over to the relief teacher when I am away for reservist training.
Time is precious. I hope you will keep your full focus during lessons.
As always, don't forget to check your handbook.
Have a restful evening. See you tomorrow! :)
