12 Jan 2015 (Monday)

Dear children,

We spent some time this morning working in groups to create labels for your Group Ice-cream Sticks Holders. I am impressed by the creative designs that some groups managed to come up with within the short time given. Keep up the good work! :)

The first ice-cream sticks were given out today for English and Maths work completed last Friday. These are the children who have put in hard work to earn ice-cream sticks for their groups:

Perfect English Work
Marc and Jing Min from Mars
Olivia and Sujith from Truth
Keagan and Chloe Lee from Diamond
Chloe Chiang from Ninjas
Dyrendo and Shaan from Minecraft

Perfect Maths Work
Avery from Thundermans
Jing Min from Mars
Giselle from Pikachu
Ethan from Void
Conan and Chloe Chiang from Ninjas
Shaan from Minecraft

Neat Maths Work
Christian from Truth
Shineta from Minecraft

This is the first weekly ice-cream sticks update and it seems that Minecraft is leading! Take a look at the scores so far:

Will Minecraft win the Group of January award? I think it is still too early to say. We will know in 19 days' time. In the meantime, work hard with your group. The competition has begun! :)

During Maths lesson, we learnt how to write cheques so that we could pay Dwarf Hypermarket for the television, dining set and wardrobe. You should have learnt how to read and write 4-digit numbers in numerals and words. Don't forget your commas and your hyphens! You also learnt to compare numbers within 10 000. When comparing two such numbers, which digit should you first look at -- the digit in the thousands place or the digit in the ones place?

English lesson was a short one today. You learnt to get adjectives from nouns and make sentences using the adjectives. If you are given the noun "beauty", what would the adjective be? What about the noun "disaster"?

During Science lesson, we learnt what classification is, why we classify things, and how we classify things. We also looked at some examples of living and non-living things and their characteristics. Can you recall what living things need in order to survive? What happens when living things grow? How can you tell apart living things and non-living things?

You took down some important notes on this topic. Please make sure they are with you during the next Science lesson. We will be continuing on that.

These are today's reminders:

1) I hope you had enough time to explore the CCA booths at the CCA Open House today. If you have not chosen your CCA yet, please remember to log on to the AskNLearn portal and do so latest by this Thursday

2) Remedial and Enrichment classes on Tuesdays will only start in Week 4, so no one needs to stay back tomorrow for that. Lessons end at 1.30 p.m..Please remind your parents about this.

3) There will be the School Distinctive Programme from this Friday onwards from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m..Please remind your parents that school on Fridays will only end at 4 p.m..

Have a restful evening. See you tomorrow! :)

    1. Dear Chloe, the School Distinctive Programmes are made up of different programmes organised for you to help you learn different skills. For the next five Friday afternoons, it will be a Speech and Drama programme for you. You and your parents can refer to Annex A of the letter given out to you on the first day of school.
