13 July 2015 (Monday)

Dear children,

These are the 6 Super Spellers who achieved full marks for last Friday's spelling test:

Hoi Yung from Dreamers
Thaneeisha and Dyrendo from Stampy
Lai Ye from Wise
Jonathan from Lego
Olivia from Kindness

It seems that many of you have not put in enough effort to prepare yourselves. I hope we can have more Super Spellers for tomorrow's spelling test. You will be one of them, won't you?

We spent much of our time together today learning to find equivalent fractions given the numerator or the denominator. Help yourself recall by answering the following questions:

1) What are the 2 methods that you have learnt to find equivalent fractions?
2) List 1 fraction that is equivalent to half. By drawing a diagram, show why they are equivalent.
3) What does simplest form mean?

Don't forget to bring the Maths work that has been assigned to you today.

For Science, we continued learning about the life cycles of animals by looking at the life cycles of the butterfly, the mosquito and the beetle. Here are the videos on the life cycles of the Monarch Butterfly and the Western Treehole Mosquito which are included in the slides I used:

You also spent some time observing our new class pets -- four American Bullfrog tadpoles (you can find out more about them here: http://www.bullfrogs.com/Bullfrog-Tadpoles.html). I haven't seen such huge tadpoles before! Have you? ;)

What did you observe? Write a comment below to share with the class.

After you had gone home, I brought more pets to the class. Living in this container now are two Malayan Eggfly caterpillars. You can find out more about them here: http://butterflycircle.blogspot.sg/2011/03/life-history-of-malayan-eggfly.html.

Let's hope that these class pets of ours will grow healthily over the weeks with the effort of everyone in the class.

During the next few weekends, I will need people to help take care of them. If you are keen to bring home the tadpoles or the caterpillars over a weekend, please ask your parents for permission. If they are agreeable, please ask them to send me a message. I will then select responsible children who have been granted permission by their parents to bring home our class pets.

Remember to check your handbook for the instructions you took down. Don't forget your spelling test tomorrow.

Have a restful evening. See you tomorrow.
